10,000 Steps

Tue, 07/20/2010 - 12:01am
The car won’t start. The bicycle has a flat tire. Your neighbor left for work 20 minutes ago.  The bus line is 14blocks away. The number for the cab company has been busy forever. Your pulse quickens, sweat beads on your forehead, you furrow your brow, and you realize you may have to….WALK! Loosen your tie and put on those sneakers and “Walk Like a Man”. It’s going to be different today!

Argentina Makes Gay Marriage History

Fri, 07/16/2010 - 12:02am
From Gay Rights blog at Change.org, by Michael Jones: Put your Evita soundtrack on this morning, and head on down to the track "A New Argentina." There's a line in that song, "A new Argentina, the chains of the masses untied!" How apt, given that in the middle of the night, Argentina's Senate cast a historic vote breaking the chains of inequality that the country's gays and lesbians have faced when it comes to civil rights under the law. In a 33-27 vote, Argentina now becomes the first Latin American country to fully recognize marriage equality.

Bring Back Romance

Thu, 07/15/2010 - 12:01am
Plenty of people have focused on bringing “sexy” back.  But, perhaps it’s time to dig a little deeper.  What about romance?  You know, that desire to be wined, dined, paid attention to, courted, wooed (I like that old-fashioned word).  I hear from a lot of clients in their 20’s and early 30’s that they’re over quick hookups and fast sex. They’ve done it, had fun, but now they want more.  They read about “old” ideas like “courtship” and find it appealing.  Perhaps the days of no impulse control are over.  Is it time to try going slower?  Could there be joy and bliss in slowly getting to know someone?  No sex right away, but yes to kisses and stuff to lead up to it.  It is amazing how many handsome young Gay/Bi/Trans men and women tell me that they don’t want to have sex on the first date.  Perhaps it’s time to bring back romance.
